Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington - Day 3

Well this day was filled with FOOD. And then some FOOD. And even more FOOD! But alas, no beer today.

After some brief research, we saw that Screen Door was the highest rated restaurant in Portland. We had wanted to visit the day before but it only has brunch on the weekends. Screen Door is known for their Southern food, which is in our Top 3 favorite cuisines.

Of course there was a wait and it clocked in at 48 minutes (let's keep a log). Around minute 38, a lady and her partner/husband stood next to us. She had just come from putting her name on the list inside.

"It's over an hour, right?" Gary said, with much disdain.
"No.... she said just about an hour."
Gary, shaking his head. "No, I can't wait that long."
"PLEASE babe, I really want to eat here. Come on, we can get coffee next door while we wait."

Gary, still shaking his head, allowed himself to be pulled away.

Look at all these suckers
Every time she came out, we will her to yell, "Greg, Party of 2!!!" And finally it happened.

It was a very difficult decision but we decided to order the following: Breakfast Corndog (made with a full on sausage), Chicken & Waffles, and Fried Oyster Benedict. And of course, Portland's finest coffee, Stumptown.

Not like any Eggs Benedict you've ever had. Plus GRITS.
"I'm almost as delicious as the one at Disneyland. In fact, Greg thinks I'm better. Also, you should try that syrup next to me because it's out of this world."
A very happy boy with Fried Chicken tower.

OK, this meal was INCREDIBLE. Sometimes after waiting a long time for brunch, it makes the brunch taste not very good. But because we knew what we were getting into, I think once we were actually eating it, made it about 100x better. You can read my Yelp if you're really curious but that was some darn good fried chicken. FIVE STARS! MUST EAT!

As we were paying the bill, guess who sat down a few tables from us? GARY! He looked super grumpy and his wife/partner looked super stoked.

With bursting bellies (and a to go box with leftover fried chicken, score!), we headed to downtown Portland. Greg wanted to check out their Nike store since Portland is where it all started. Unfortunately, the store was quite small and did not live up to expectations. Maybe the same could be said of Portland in general? We weren't drawn to much in downtown so we headed to the waterfront for some geocaching action.

After trying very hard for almost an hour, we had to give up on our specified geo hunt because we figured it's probably lost. It was getting dark and wanted to get going to our next destination. Before heading back to the car though, we stopped at the world famous Voodoo Doughnut (sorry, no pic). The line was about an hour deep so we just said that maybe we'd stop on the way back down.

Two and half hours later, we rolled into Seattle town!

Beautiful skyline and driving downtown, it already felt different than Portland. Lots of lights, tall buildings, and people bustling around. We managed to get a good deal on a hotel in the middle of downtown (10 min from Pike Place) which is exciting being in the middle of all the action! The hotel itself is a bit of a relic (aka historical aka old) but the room is very clean and it's has a regal feel to it.

Shortly after, we headed out and walked (yay!) to our dinner place. Greg's sister, Kristi, had suggested a restaurant her and Brandon had been to and really liked called the Pink Door. Apparently they have acrobats and burlesque shows sometimes so we decided to go for it!

(I also want to mention at this point how CLEAN Seattle is. Even the alleyways are well lit and practically sparkling. Wut?)

After strolling down some alleys and admiring the Christmas lights everywhere, we arrived here:

Not just a rosy glow, that door is pink!

Inside, we told them we did not have a reservation but were hoping to get a table for dinner. The host said, "I have one table left" and pointed to the one at the front of the restaurant. OK! (Wait time = 0)

After perusing the Italian menu, we went with the Fresh Oysters, a Caesar salad, the Cioppino (G) and the Tagliatele with Rabbit (me). Sorry, no photos of the mains.

We decided to skip dessert since I was still somewhat full from our entire day of gorging ourselves. To help with the discomfort, we decided to walk around a bit in Pike Place before heading back to the hotel.

GZ decided to try to milk this piggy bank for it's money
It's a bit warmer here in Seattle for some reason and we enjoyed our first night immensely. Looking forward to tomorrow which will include more FOOD and possibly some BEER!

At the end of the day, we both had the same thought: Did Gary finally let go and enjoy his food?!

Bonus photo! For Grandpa Fevold:
