A few more pictures from Greg’s camera on Christmas:
Our last morning in Zion, how sad we were to leave! The room really did feel like home.
It was a beautiful day outside so we decided to hit one of the viewpoints from the day before so we could get a clear shot. Today's quote was provided by a very boisterous family of 5 that we ran into at Court of the Patriarchs. We had just jumped out of the car to get a few shots so Greg was just wearing a sweatshirt. I believe the family was from California and they looked like they were freezing, they were cute.
Driving through the tunnel at Zion
Goodbye Zion, we’ll miss you!
My camera died before we got to Bryce National Park (boo) so we had to use Greg’s.
It looks like gingerbread, doesn’t it?
We hadn’t planned on hiking but it was too cool to pass up plus the scenic drive was closed and we’d get very limited access to what we would be able to see. It was clear, blue skies but it was bitterly cold. The wind would just cut right through ya and before we got going on the hike, I was admittedly not a happy camper. But once the blood gets flowing, it’s not so bad. It was cool to be able to hike down into the canyon.
Truly otherworldly
Hey, who’s that Eskimo?
We took a scenic byway on the way to Moab because a ranger at Zion had told us it was awesome (this is the same ranger that used the word “gnarly”). It was going to take us a bit longer but we wanted to see some gorgeous scenery.
Utah tends to get a bad rap, but I understand why the Mormons settled here. Utah has it going on (landscape wise).
I love these signs
A whole herd of these guys were crossing the road
The road got super treacherous as the sun set. There was a ton of snow drift and the roads were difficult to navigate. Greg did a great job though and we survived. Occasionally we’d see gates where they must close the road during really heavy snowfall; thank god we didn’t have to deal with that situation. My feet were even freezing IN the car. We passed a bunch of tiny towns, it was so interesting to see people living literally in the middle of a mountain or canyon.
At one junction, we drove down the wrong highway for about 4 miles because we got distracted by this:
It’s kind of blurry, but it’s a gas station in a mountain.
Sweet!
We saw this sign in the same town we ran into a Ducks fan.
We got into town late and checked into our hotel. The room smelled like poop so Greg requested another room which was given to us promptly. Two queen beds but at least this one was clean and didn’t smell like poop. This has been my least favorite hotel but at least it’s warm.
