West Yellowstone, MT

This is the totally sweet bedside lamp at the Gold Country Inn

We've made it to West Yellowstone, Montana! I've always wanted to go to Montana so that's pretty cool. Well, specifically, I've wanted to go to Glacier National Park but that's not on the ticket this time around. Yellowstone is a pretty sweet deal though, I think. (I say, I think, because I haven't yet been there. I am excited to see animals, Old Faithful, snowshoe, and snowmobile. I added this because Boo says it sounds like I'm not excited but I totally am).

This morning we left Elko somewhat early (9:30a) and pulled some slot machines before departing. I would've stayed longer (I love me some slots) but after glimpsing the other two people in the casino, I'm kinda glad we left. The look on this one older lady's face was enough to scare me off gambling for life.

After attempting to make it to McDonald's for breakfast (with 10 minutes to spare!), we encountered the weirdest run McD's I've ever seen in my life. There were 5 people working and running around and nobody at the counter. There were about 6 people in line. So we just went to BK instead where a nice lady with no teeth served us. Should've gotten her photo.

Somewhere in Nevada

As it tends to happen on road trips, conversation can turn to some weird topics. Today's revolved around Port-a-Potties. We saw a place that sold Port-a-Potties and I had to wonder, what happens to those things once they get filled up? Greg says they have to wash them and I figured that is probably one of the worst jobs anyone could ever have. But we reasoned that poop is a biohazard so it probably has to go through some kind of vacuum or sanitizing thing. It's gross they get used again. Boo said, "Well, it's either a garbage collector or that job." I would be a garbage collector any day, do you know how much they get paid?? But file it under, well someone's got to do it, because it's true. Either the turnover is really high for that job or it's low because at some point you just don't care about poop anymore.

Yesterday's topic was around brothels. Boo says truckers go to them. Because I've read a lot of fiction, I think it's lonely businessmen. I know it's the world's oldest profession but that doesn't make it any less weird, ya know? What if your girlfriend was a former prostitute? That can't be good.

Sorry, I missed the Nevada one but I'm making sure we stop for the others. I was kind of scared to be in Idaho. I was convinced someone in a Klansman hood was going to come out and scare me. At the gas station I was hanging on to Boo for dear life like they were going to take me away.

We scoffed at a sign that said, "historical site" because they don't usually turn out to be anything. Luckily I looked this time and saw this HUGE gorge. It was awesome!

They say it's like 400 feet from the bridge to the bottom of the gorge.

Blurry trees on the way to West Yellowstone

It was snowing as we got into Montana. Enough to cover the roads a little bit. Mostly drift. Made it fun though. The trees looked like they had frosting on them.

Now we're at the Yellowstone Lodge. This place is classy, it's got an indoor pool and hot tub where we met quite the interesting characters. There's quite a bit of snow on the ground and as I'm about to go to bed, it's still falling. It's beautiful outside.

Tomorrow we're trying to snowmobile and see a bit of the park. Wish us luck!
