Load me up with Chicken Fried Steak! Beaver, UT

It continued to snow through the night and it was a complete whiteout. This morning it seemed to have stopped and I think we were pretty agreed that we’d leave West Yellowstone one day early to head over to Zion. Really, what was there left for us to do? Plus, the roads were covered in snow and a 9h drive was going to take much longer than that.

Not much to say as it was mostly a driving day. Drove the length of Idaho where we didn’t leave the car.

We briefly stopped in Salt Lake City because I needed to get a phone charger and the car needed some windshield wiper fluid (you wouldn’t believe how much you go through). We went to Radio Shack and I thought they might give me a dose of Mormon Doctrine when I asked for my phone charger but the young man was actually very nice. Boom-slam. Everyone was actually quite nice, especially the old man at the Sears Auto Store who had a Bluetooth hooked to his ear but apparently didn’t know how to work a cash register.

We played a few road trip games. I won the alphabet one. I am champion.

Lots of Harry Potter on tape. We’re on Book 4.

Somehow we made a decision to stop in Beaver, UT, which I guesstimate to be about 2 hours from Zion. We sat in the parking lot of the dumpy looking Best Western to steal the internet so we could get an internet deal on the hotel. Luckily we didn’t trust the AAA recommendation on the dumpy hotel and instead found a local place called the “Eagle’s Landing.” It seems to be a truckers’ haven while being extremely new on the lodging side. No complaints but it is a little sparse.

Before we settled into the hotel, we decided to head down Main St. and find some food. AAA suggested this family owned café so we checked it out.

I’ve been wanting to stop at some family diner so this place fit the bill. One order of chicken fried steak and one order of the pot roast, please. Overly salty, super homey and just what the doctor ordered. Yes, that is Chicken Fried Steak that you see.

I think it was a good call to go as far as we did today as we’ll have that much more time in Zion tomorrow. Hopefully we can get into the hotel early (the fanciest of the lot this trip) but I’m looking forward to hoofin’ some trails either way. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, what the hell!

Anyone want to offer a guess to what we’ll be having for Christmas dinner? Because I have no clue!
